Together! Digital and printed

For this week’s Together! let’s talk about digital and printed media. Each media has it’s uses, and probably we’ll have both for a long time to come. It’s just that they will change. Digital media can now solve some problems that printed media couldn’t. And because digital media exists, printed media is changing.

How do you think this will go? What will change? Is there a chance for one media overtake the other completely? How much time that will take?

Logo contest is over and we have a winner

The contest for Cyprus Blog Network logo is over now. We wanted to announce the winner on Friday, but because of this and that we are doing it now (Sunday).

There were a few nice submissions, as well as mockups. The best logo candidate, we think, was submitted by Slava Dyrdine. Here it is:

Cyprus Blog Network logo

Congratulations to Slava and huge thanks for all participants!

Over the next few days, we’ll be producing a few variations of this logo. We believe that different shapes, sizes, and colors, together with easy linking instructions will help to further promote Cyprus Blog Network.

Together! Christmas wish list

The Together! Blogging was a start, but I wish we could get even more submissions and activity all around. I think we should try a less technical topic, something everyone knows about. How about Christmas wish list?

The Christmas season is approaching, and it’s time to think about, probably, the most pleasant part of the holiday - presents. We’ll be giving lots of presents out, and we’ll be receiving some too. It’s shopping time!

So, what are you shopping for? What do you want to find under the tree (or in the sock) this year? Can it even fit under the three? Where are going to buy most of your presents - online or in the malls? Are you buying presents for yourself too, or counting on your friends and family for all your joy?

This Together! has an additional bonus, that should convince you to blog, if nothing else did - your post might be read by those who is preparing presents for you. They’ll have more clue into what is that you really desire, and, perhaps, your Christmas will so much more pleasant.

CBN logo contest

One of the things that we miss here at Cyprus Blog Network, is a good logo. And while text links and the loud name are all good, logo is a nice touch which makes us so much more recognizable. With that in mind, we are starting a logo contest.

Here are a few considerations for a logo that we have:

  • Scalable. It should look good any almost any size. It can be used as a header image on this web site, or as a small link button on any other web site.
  • Color-balanced. Since it will be used as a link to Cyprus Blog Network on a number of web sites, it should be easy to blend in. Some sites are bright and colorful. Others are almost black and white. Our logo should look nice in any color, or blend nicely into any web site.
  • Static. Please, don’t make it animated. Nothing should blink, turn, spark, or move. We should be able to print. Maybe even on a t-shirt.

After that it’s all good.

How to submit

  1. Upload your image (or, better even, images) to your Flickr account.
  2. Tag your image (or images) with “cbnlogo” keyword.

That’s it. We’ll be able to find them. If you want to go that one extra step, then leave a comment to this post with links to your images at Flickr. We’ll find them even faster.

Timeline

The contest starts now, from the moment this post goes online, and runs until noon (midday) of Friday, November 17, 2006 (Cyprus time, GMT+2). We’ll review all submissions on Friday, and we’ll post about everyone who participated, and about the winning submission - all on the same Friday.

Prize

The winner of the contest will get an honourable mention in the post. Also, we’ll have a dedicated page about the contest and about participants and winner, which will be forever set in stone and linked to from the main page of this web site.

You’ll be remembered. You’ll have tonnes of good karma. And you’ll have traffic to your web site. Not bad for a logo, eh?
